Early Childhood Education: Master of Education (M.Ed.)

Salem State University offers an initial licensure option for students seeking an initial license and master's degree and/or training in early childhood education. More information is available here: 

Early Education and Care: Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.)

If you want to work with young children, this is the concentration for you. This four year program will lead you to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, your Early Education and Care Lead Teacher certification, and extensive workplace experience across a range of early childhood settings.

Early Childhood Education: Associate of Arts

Our Associates degree in Early Childhood Education (ECD) prepares students for The Department of Early Education and Care certification and employment as Lead Teachers in non-public school settings for children ages 2.9 to six years.

Early Childhood Education - Transfer Program

The Early Childhood Education Transfer (Associate in Science) program is designed to prepare a student to transfer into a bachelor’s degree program leading to teacher licensure.

Early Childhood, with and without Disabilities (PreK-2): Master of Education (M.Ed.)


This master’s program is offered for students who are seeking initial licensure for PreK-2 levels.  The degree is composed of 36 credits plus a 3-credit SEI-Endorsement course as required by DESE. 

Early Childhood: Bachelor of Education with Teaching License


The student who completes the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education may be endorsed for licensure in Pre-K-2 in the state of Massachusetts. Early Childhood majors choose an acceptable second major in the Liberal Arts in order to be a “highly qualified” teacher.
