Quinsigamond Community College

The Early Childhood Education program prepares students for responsible positions in the field of early care and education or for careers in other child-related areas. As a graduate, the student will be qualified for career opportunities in Early Education and Care as a lead teacher and, depending upon experience, as an assistant director or director. Courses in this program are transferable for students wishing to continue their education at the Bachelors level.

During the course of study, you will develop professional competencies and knowledge of the philosophy of early childhood education through exposure to theory and practice. Practical experience will provided through weekly off campus field placements and at the Children’s School in the Quinsigamond Child Study Center. Students will gain a basic knowledge of the growth and development of young children, and an understanding of their learning processes in carefully planned environments

Highlights: Since 1963, QCC has provided opportunities for a first-rate education and personal growth to thousands of area men and women. Our flexible admission policy, low cost, extensive financial aid, and high quality traditional and workforce education programs have made a college education possible for many early childhood educators. We are fortunate to have a true laboratory school located on our main campus. Students enrolled in our program get the opportunity to practice their newly developing skills under the guidance of mentor teachers and faculty members and are able to bring to life what they are learning in their academic classes.

Resources available: For students who are in need of financial assistance to help offset the cost of their education, several types of financial aid are available. The Early Childhood department also offers a Carol Lawson Scholarship yearly and students may also apply for the Department of Early Education and Cares ECE Scholarship. In addition we offer many courses through the state funded Educator and Provider Support Grant for workforce students.

Student Supports provided: Quinsigamond has a wealth of high quality student support systems in place to help our students including a state of the art Library, math and literacy tutoring centers, and academic and career advising support.
